Ottawa Orienteering Club
A Rogaine is an event in which teams of 2-3 participants travel cross country on foot to locate checkpoints using only a map and compass to guide them. Unlike classic Orienteering, there is no predetermined sequence of controls, but rather a time limit. Teams may visit as many or as few checkpoints - or "controls" - as they wish, in any order they wish, as long as they return to the finish before the time limit is reached. For more information about this type of course, visit the International Rogaining Federation (www.rogaining.com).
The event course will cover an area of 30-km² (5-km² for the 2-hour), taking you through several magnificent areas of Gatineau Park, some of which you may never have explored before, all during the fall rhapsody of colour. All competitors all welcomed, whether you are competitive or just want to have a nice hike.
Each control will be worth a certain number of points, with the value determined by different level of difficulty (beginner, intermediate and advanced). A severe penalty will be assessed for finishing overtime. The event will take place rain or shine, so dress properly. The average temperature for Gatineau Park at the end of October is 10 °C for the maximum (50°F) and 2°C for the minimum (36°F)
