Canadian Orienteering Championships a great success

A great thanks to the many, many volunteers who helped to make this year's COC's a great success here in Ottawa. More than fifty OOC members, friends and family joined to ensure our 300+ guests were well taken care of. And it was truly appreciated by the participants and by the key organizers. What a terrific group the OOC group is! We also had great support from our sister club, LGOC, who ran one of the meets and then volunteered to help with finishes at the following meets. The orienteering world's most popular website, AttackPoint.org has it all - photos - thanks to Stefan Bergstrom and participant Bernie Breton from NY state, media interviews, comments, accolades, rules discussions,

If you were not participating, let me assure you you have a treat in store when we next use 'the Barrens' map which was the site of the COC long course. Having been on the map for the first time the day after the meet, picking up controls, I was reminded of canoeing days on Lake Temagami and the French River with beautiful rock stretches along the lake shores.

COC results, pictures, WinSplits, RouteGadget

Stefan and others have contributed some great photos from the various events. WinSplits show the split times with various options - takes a bit of time to understand it all but it may be of interest to you. RouteGadget shows you the map, then allows you to select a class to see the course they ran and the route choice of any participants who have contributed. You can then animate it to see where an individual lost or gained on another. Good fun! See http://COC2010.ca/results.shtml

Be sure to visit this last one, not only because it is a great interview, but also because it is the station's YouTube so the more hits we get the better it will be for future orienteering coverage in Ottawa.
