Nakkertok Event - September 13

We are very happy to be hosting our first meet of the year at Nakkertok South. The event will be following Orienteering Canada’s COVID-19 procedures and public health guidelines to keep everyone safe. We hope you’ll come out to enjoy physical distancing at its best, in the forest and finding flags. Please thoroughly read Orienteering Ottawa’s COVID-19 event modifications. https://ottawaoc.ca/index.php/events/covid-19-event-modifications.

Nakkertok’s terrain is lovely, deciduous forest which is fairly open offering good runability with a dense trail network adding many extra route choice options. Some areas contain intricate combination of knolls, cliffs, and boulders adding an extra challenge. Be aware of various indistinct trails that are used as snowshoe trails in the winter but are less visible in the summer. These are not mapped.

Some important COVID-19 notes

  • You must pre-register online before showing up on Sunday! When registering, you will select a 15 minute start window between 10 and 11:45 am. This will ensure that people are sufficiently distanced at the start and finish areas. The start interval is one minute. To register, please go to: https://ottawaoc.ca/index.php/events/covid-19-event-modifications

  • There will be no water/refreshments on course or at the finish! Neither Orienteering Ottawa nor Nakkertok will have any sort of drinking water. Bring a hydration belt and snacks for after.

  • Bring a mask! Please wear a mask when physical distancing is difficult. This may be at the start/finish areas but be assured that Nakkertok has a lot of space and distancing should not be difficult at all.

  • The chalet will be closed but Orienteering Ottawa tents will be set up outside as usual.

  • Toilets are to be used for emergency only (your discretion to judge what “emergency” means )

  • The start will be located about 80 m west of the check-in tent and the finish 110 m to the east, in order to keep everyone spaced out. Refer to the map snippet. Additionally, all courses start in and finish from different directions.

  • There is no finish chute/marking, all courses must navigate from the last control to the finish.

Here are the courses we will offer (subject to slight change):
